NARRATIVES OF FREEDOM

NARRATIVES OF FREEDOM (NOF): an arts-based, participatory research project, NOF uses multimedia prison workshops and community gatherings to create and disseminate oral history narratives. These stories highlight those incarcerated and the impact of incarceration and crime on families. Currently/formerly incarcerated students and university participants complete the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI), a program training researchers in ethically and socially responsible research. In addition to traditional journal publications, our research is disseminated through a multimodal process to inform the public, legislature, and develop “decarceration” strategies, policies and educational opportunities.
